After 3 years, the highly acclaimed Dunraven Welsh Young Singer of the Year made a welcome
return to the RWCMD, Cardiff on Sunday, April 16th.
Sponsored by our President, Mr David Brace OBE and his wife Dawn, George Curnow(Tenor), was
announced as the 2023 winner, fending off impressive performances by Osian Bowen(Tenor) and
Emilie Parry Williams(Soprano). All three thrilled a large audience, guided by the excellent Beverley
Humphreys, MBE, as MC.
The performers in the younger age group entertained the audience in concert style, rather than
competition and brought credit to themselves in so doing. The future of the competition.
The world class adjudicators, Rebecca Evans CBE, Anthony Gabrielle and David Jackson OBE
were unanimous in their decision and also gave lavish praise the the Maesteg Gleemen MVChoir
for the quality of their tone, diction and phrasing, and the choir are hugely indebted to all three for
their continued support of this, in their words, a major stepping stone to the BBC Cardiff Singer of
the World! Praise indeed!
